Minimum Services Set for Iberia Strikes

Iberia employees are again poised to strike in protest against the 3,807 job cuts announced recently by the airline. Iberia’s pilots are the latest group to join the strike following the strike call of the unions for ground workers and cabin crew.
The unions UGT, CCOO, USO, SITCPLA, ASETMA and CTA issued the strike call for a total of 15 days over February and March. Specifically, the strike dates are to be: 18th-22nd February, 4th-8th March and 18th-22nd March.
The Ministry of Development has informed Iberia, its strike committee and airport operator AENA, of the minimum services which must be operated on these strike days. These minimum services aim to reconcile the interests of citizens and, in particular, their mobility needs, with the airline workers’ right to strike.
Minimum services include flights operated by Iberia as well as other airlines whose flights are served by Iberia.
All services where the scheduled departure time is before the start of the strike and those whose arrival time is scheduled to occur during the period of strike.
100% of the services of each airline on each route between mainland airports with the Canary and Balearic islands, between both islands, and between mainland cities and Melilla.
50% of the services of each airline on each route between mainland Spanish cities where alternative means of public transport means a journey of 500km or more with travel time of more than 5 hours.
25% of the services of each airline on each route between mainland Spanish cities where alternative means of public transport means a journey of less than 500km or a travel time of less than 5 hours.
50% of the services of each airline on each route between Spanish and foreign cities.
Scheduled flights to transport mail and perishables when they are made with aircraft exclusively dedicated to cargo.
Other operations considered essential such as the supply of crews necessary for the effective conduct of air transport services, ensuring sufficient capacity in de-icing services as well as all essential public services to the community resulting from applying the above criteria to public air transport services served/operated by Iberia and all the flights of other airlines.
The Ministry of Development also stated that Iberia must take steps to ensure that these essential minimum services, both operated by Iberia itself and by other companies served by it, are provided in the usual manner, and to strictly maintain the personnel necessary for each of the days and time period affected by the strikes, at all times preserving the safety of operations.
