August Contributory Pensions up 5% Year-on-Year

According to statistics released at the end of last week by the Spanish Social Security system, the monthly total of contributory pensions paid out by the system at 1st August 2013, amounted to 7.8 billion euros. This represents an increase of 5% compared with the same month of 2012.
The average retirement pension stood at 981.92 euros, up 3.5% on the same period last year. The average pension from the Spanish Social Security system as a whole, which includes all the various types of pension available (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood, and those paid out to relatives), stood at 858.10 euros per month. This represents a year-on-year increase of 3.2%.
The Spanish Government website, La Moncloa, reported that the total number of contributory pensions in July stood at 9,087,402. This equates to a year-on-year increase of 1.7%. More than half of these are retirement pensions (5,468,008), while 2,338,437 are widowhood pensions, 935,113 are permanent disability pensions, 308,173 are orphanhood pensions and 37,671 are pensions paid out to relatives.
